World Cup 2026 Campaign

The Brand: Portuguese Football Federation

The Campaign: World Cup 2026 Campaign

Brand Challenge

The 2026 World Cup carried a rare emotional weight for Portugal. It was widely seen as the last World Cup of Cristiano Ronaldo’s extraordinary international career, and it arrived at a moment when Portugal could reasonably be considered to have one of the greatest generations of footballers in its history. At the same time, the campaign had to acknowledge the tribute to Diogo Jota, whose absence added a layer of sensitivity and purpose to the message.

Another key challenge was Portugal’s status going into the tournament: a quiet favorite. Unlike teams that arrive at a World Cup with loud expectations, Portugal’s strength was felt more subtly, through the quality of the squad, the maturity of the group, and the belief that this could be a truly special campaign. The task was to turn all of that into a message capable of mobilizing the country, honoring the moment, and making the World Cup feel personal to every Portuguese fan.

Strategic Approach

The strategy was built around the idea that this campaign could not be just another World Cup support film. It had to reflect the magnitude of the moment, both emotionally and culturally. That meant balancing celebration and responsibility: celebrating one of the best generations in Portuguese football, while also respecting the weight of Cristiano Ronaldo’s final World Cup and the tribute to Diogo Jota.

We also knew Portugal needed a campaign that could convert silent favoritism into visible national belief. The team had the talent to go far, but the communication had to give fans a reason to feel that this was their moment too. The approach was therefore to create a narrative that connected ambition, identity, and collective support, while speaking not only to Portuguese fans, but also to the diaspora and to international audiences who would be watching Portugal closely.

Creative Concept

Vai Dar Portugal | It’s Portugal Time

The creative concept was designed to express confidence without excess, pride without noise. “Vai Dar Portugal” works as a declaration of belief: this is a moment that can belong to Portugal. “It’s Portugal Time” gives that idea international clarity, turning the slogan into something that can travel across borders while keeping its emotional core intact.

The concept was introduced earlier in the year through a teaser that established a broader narrative universe inspired by the sea and maritime endurance. That early chapter gave the campaign a strong identity and created anticipation for the World Cup phase, where the message could fully land as a national call to action.

Creative Approach

The hero film showed Portuguese people arriving in the United States, setting the tone for a campaign that was not only about supporting the team, but also about accompanying Portugal’s presence on American soil. This arrival helped frame the World Cup as a shared journey, with the supporters themselves becoming part of the story.

From there, the campaign expanded into a wider set of initiatives planned by the FPF to follow Portugal throughout the competition. Among the actions scheduled in the United States was the creation of Portugal House in New York, along with other spaces and activations designed to bring together fans, the diaspora, and the team’s support base. In Portugal, the campaign was also designed to resonate through complementary initiatives that would help keep the country emotionally connected to the tournament.

Rather than focusing only on match hype, the film aimed to create an emotional bridge between the players, the fans, and the places where Portugal would be present during the World Cup. The support of the fans was presented as part of the journey itself, not as a separate layer around it. That made the campaign feel more human, more grounded, and more meaningful.

At the same time, the tone had to be sufficiently elevated to match the significance of the moment. This was the last World Cup of an icon, the stage for an exceptional generation, and a tournament shaped by remembrance as well as expectation. The creative solution needed to hold all of that together while still feeling clear and powerful.

Campaign Rollout

The campaign unfolded in phases, beginning months earlier with the teaser film and then expanding into the full World Cup support campaign closer to the tournament. That structure allowed the story to build naturally, giving the audience time to absorb the platform before the final push into competition mode.

By the time the World Cup arrived, “Vai Dar Portugal | It’s Portugal Time” had become more than a campaign line. It had become a way of framing the national mood: respectful of the past, aware of the emotion of the moment, and fully committed to the belief that Portugal could rise to the occasion.
